At the end of a tranquil square in London’s exclusive Belgravia district stands a stunning contemporary penthouse apartment. With sweeping edges, large open spaces and an abundance of light flooding in from all directions, you don’t have to be an expert in modern art to know that this London penthouse is a contemporary masterpiece. Welcome to London II.

Upon entering the home, one of the most striking aspects of this London penthouse is the prominence of modern art. The owners are avid art enthusiasts, so it was important for them to have a place they could display their extensive collection. At the same time, the home still manages to maintain the feel of a family home thanks to textured accents and warm wood details.

This balance is most clearly seen in the top floor living room where quirky art and sculptural furniture feature in a minimalist interior adorned with velour cushions, a cozy rug and timber panelling. Items to note are Fabio Novembre’s ‘Happy Pills’ Murano blown glass vases and the fabulous Zaha Hadid Aqua Table.

In order to make the art pieces truly stand out, the lighting in this London penthouse received much attention. Streaming in from outside, filtered in from above, and cascading from the electrical fittings, the profusion of light helps to create a continuous, uninterrupted flow of space. To make it possible to allow light through from the windows to the hallway, the walls upstairs on either side have been replaced with glass.

The top floor also houses the family’s favourite room – the dining room. It’s where at least once a day they are all able to sit down together and share a meal. Just look at those breathtaking views of the city!

The round irregular-shaped dining tables, designed by Fernando and Humberto Campana, are cut from luxurious marble. Their rounded soft edges look inviting, despite the hard marble texture. Balancing the organic curves against the strong linear walls creates a stunning display come meal time.

There are three floors in total in this London penthouse. Connecting them all is an industrial-inspired staircase that does double duty as an intriguing sculpture and focal point of the home.

We love the openness of the stairwell right at the very top of the home, gorgeously framing the art on the wall. When you center art in a room, it creates an obvious sight line that you can’t help but be drawn in by. It’s a great way to bring attention towards the things in your room that you want to share and look at.

The children’s bedroom is on the middle floor. Here, a deep blue Christian Fischbacher rug works to bring the colors and patterns of the room together. A simple white wall makes the perfect background for some edgy urban artwork that is playful enough to suit a youthful space.

On the first floor are two bedrooms, which have both been soundproofed for a good night’s sleep. The rooms use neutral colors,  keeping the area minimalist and simple for a relaxing overall vibe.

In the master bedroom, curtain hangings are tucked behind a narrow strip along the top that follows the length of the room. It gives the space a clean, non-fussy look. Notice that the sheer material is mostly decorative, though it goes in some way in filtering light, creating some privacy and hiding the radiators. More practical are the window shutter which fully block out light and sounds from the outside square.

Mixing up light sources gives a room greater usability. It’s always important to have light near reading chairs and near the bed so you can wind down at the end of the evening.

The sleek streamlined feel of the guest room is softened by a large rug and fluffy pillows. Overall it creates a feeling of modern minimal elegance, with the photos and artwork injecting just the right amount of the homeowners’ personality and tastes to make the room feel welcoming.

For a chic and modern place to do make up and get ready in the morning how about a floating desk and round mirror? Accessorize with clear acrylic boxes so as not to clutter the sleek setup.

Certainly this London penthouse has plenty to feast the eyes on; brimming with great art pieces and streamlined design, as well as being a comfortable space for a modern family to call home.
