When you’re living the rock chick lifestyle, you want a home that fits your credentials. One of the home owners of this property runs a family business making guitar strings, so they were looking for a home that matched the energy, creativity and feel of their personality.
The owners grew up in Manhattan dreaming of owning a New York brownstone, a popular kind of sandstone townhouse of the area. Upon moving to Chicago they found this gorgeous greystone in Lincoln Park, and they realized they’d found their “forever home”. To make that house feel even more like their special space, it has been renovated to bring a bit of Brooklyn to their new pad with a fun eclectic design, and the results are warm, playful and sensual.
The couple hired award winning design firm Inspired Interiors to change things up in the living room, dining room and powder room. Each of these areas has been infused with the couple’s love of art and music, and with fetching results.
The happy couple’s favorite part of the new home is this gorgeous fireplace setting! It’s so over-the-top and special that it completely takes center stage in this room. It’s well framed by the handmade, salvaged book sculpture that hangs above the mantelpiece.
The storage unit was custom made to fit the room, and works well with the bookshelf along the other side of the wall. Although the room makes a dramatic first impression, it’s also a cozy friendly space where you can spend the evening curled up by the fire.
The furniture is mostly composed of darker materials, giving them a certain edgy look. But notice that the walls and floors have been kept lighter, to balance out the richness and depth of the colors. The room also benefits from its beautifully tall wide windows to let the light flood in.
The reupholstered Pierre Cardin chairs are certainly an eye-catching touch to the dining room but it’s the bike sculpture hanging up that really captures your attention!
The metal sculpture is a rare piece of art from C. Jeré, an artist active in the 60s. The walls have dark teal undertones, which give the space a cozy feel and match the rich sumptuous setting of the lavish armchairs and soft-to-the-touch chairs.
The chandelier with its round soft shape breaks up the hard colors, making it feel quite romantic.
The powder room has been transformed into trendy decadence! The home owner picked out this gorgeous black and white Kelly Wearstler wallpaper giving the room a jazzy feel, matched with gold fittings and a custom teal vanity.
I love seeing the teal pop up once again, it’s the accent color that matches the rooms together, and it’s a fabulous color. It shows off how well it works with even light and dark walls or floors.
It’s a gorgeous apartment and I get a great sense of the edgy personality of the people living here. The h textiles and eye-catching designs give the rooms a huge surge of personality and attitude. It’s easy to feel drawn in and welcomed into this gorgeous greystone.
