This 1901 Edwardian country mansion is steeped in history. It’s a great example of the architecture of that era. Rooted in the arts and crafts movement, the home echoes the style and unique features of those times.

As well as a family home, this country mansion required structural and aesthetic modifications to make it fit for modern times. The owners wanted to recreate the Hamptons in Surrey Hills. The idea was to design a timeless look, while incorporating the owners’ many personal antiques and objets d’art from their various travels. For this unique pairing, the American look served as the right underlying theme.

Maurizio Pellizzoni was commissioned for the transformation of this home. The seamless extension involved adding a double height formal room, orangery, three extra bathrooms and a walk-in closet for the master bedroom. It is impossible to tell apart the new and old parts of the house.

The entrance into the house from the front porch has double doors, painted black with gold leaf studs to add a sense of luxury. The doors open towards a formal reception area with opulent interiors dominated by black, white and gold.

This gorgeous double height hallway is the main part connecting all the different floors. A more eclectic theme is seen here, with a lot of antique decorations from the owners’ collection.

The oversize chandelier adds a unique style statement while not distracting from the overall decor of the room, which features a lot of interesting items. The collection of tribal face masks on the wall look stunning and I am sure they all have a unique story from travels across the globe.

The rusted mirrors create a nice antique look while also reflecting the light and making the room brighter. The homes of the Edwardian era had some particular differentiating factors from its predecessors. The light colored walls, numerous windows to let in natural light and using flowers in decor, to name a few, and they all can be see here in this hallway.

The entire kitchen was completely redesigned in collaboration with an expert kitchen maker. A Carrara worktop was custom made for this kitchen. Attention to detail can be sensed in every corner. It is a functional yet elegant room with a monochromatic scheme and a clutter-free decor. The beautiful lamps above the kitchen island add an antique look to the space, while the rest of it is modern and elegant.

There is an informal dining area near the kitchen, and a formal dining room right next door.

This orangery is part of the new wing added to the house. In the olden days orangeries were conservatory areas that let in a lot of light so that citrus fruits could grow there. This room is now perfect as an informal space for the family to enjoy. The floor length windows and skylights make it a lively room. Opening up into the gardens, it is a perfect place to merge in the spaces indoors and outdoors and enjoy summer time with family.

The owners wanted to create a timeless nautical style which combines the contemporary English countryside setting with the Hamptons style homes. Pellizzoni added an effortless mix of smart tailoring with neutral and cool blue tones. These styles also pair well with the white and blue porcelain decorations in the room. Soft furnishing create a cozy feel and the framed pictures add a personal touch.

Don’t you think the wicker furniture softens room? It’s more casual, but still functional and suits the atmosphere of the setting. None of the accessories in the room overpower the other, and the focus is on comfort. The harmonious mix of eclectic style and nautical aesthetic make it a timeless space for casual entertainment all year long.

The core idea of Edwardian style homes was to move away from opulence into a refined and elegant setting. This room is perfect for entertaining guests with easy access to the large patio outside. An eclectic mix of style in the decor can be seen here as well. Beautiful antique furniture, golden wallpaper paneling and a range of paintings and other accessories make it an interesting space. Some existing furniture was paired with new items picked up by Pellizzoni to create a harmonious mix. The stunning chandelier is a bright contrast to the rest of the dark interiors.

The owners had various antiques and art collections spread across the house, so they were used as the theme for decorating different rooms. All the paintings were re-framed for each setting to create a cohesive look. In this sitting room you can see some stunning paintings; the overall darker tones create a warm and welcoming aesthetic. I think the beautiful coffee table and chandelier add elegance and unique style.

Every corner of this room is worthy of admiration. Hand crafted antique furniture paired with artifacts from around the world fit perfectly together.

All the doors on the ground floor have been painted black with golden door knobs. The door handles were designed by Charles Edwards. To complement the existing pieces of furniture and to add a refined luxurious statement to the interiors, Pellizzoni used furniture and fabrics by Ralph Lauren, de Le Cuona and Andrew Martin.

The double height formal sitting room was also a new addition to the house. Gold and black tones have been used to add a luxurious look. A lighter rug contrasts with the darker furniture to make the room feel spacious and brighter, along with the gold framed rusted mirrors that pick up reflections of the room’s details.

The master bedroom is en-suite. It is a bright and comfortable space with slight hints of gold tones to make the aesthetics match with the rest of the house. The large Persian rug inspired the color palette of this room. Softer tones have been used to make it a calm and relaxing space.

The guest bedroom has a cozy resort-like feel. Earthy tones have been used to create warm interiors.

Every room was inspired by the collection of artifacts and antiques collected by the owners from across the globe.

The top floor of the house has a generously sized kids room with a separate playroom, and a large bathroom.

Clean lines and fun lighting is befitting, as this shared bathroom is intended for children to use.

The playroom is a quiet space for kids to enjoy their favorite activities and entertain friends. Lots of family pictures on the walls make it a nice and cozy area. It looks a lot different from the rest of the house. This extension reflects the shift in our preferences to contemporary decorating.

Travel mementos and world-inspiration blend beautifully. This family home is truly a warm and welcoming example of the Hamptons in Surrey Hills.
